DC Football vs Franklin

(Defiance, OH) Senior night this weekend did not turn out the way the Yellow Jackets (3-6) had hoped after strong wins the last two weeks. Franklin (7-2) came out and proved to the fans why they were undefeated in the conference yet again.

Although the game did not produce the best outcome, the Yellow Jackets were able to put together strong statistics.

The offense converted 17 first downs, 3 of which came on third down, perfect scoring percentage in the red zone, 21/36 passing and 8 plays went for more than 10 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Jackets held Franklin to only 2 third down conversions, had an interception return for a touchdown, and also racked up 5 tackles for a loss.

Franklin opened the game up with a touchdown on offense and took an early lead on the first drive of the game.

After the Yellow Jackets blocked a punt, the ball touched one of Defiance’s own players, which made the ball live and allowed Franklin to recover for another drive. It would soon be stopped by an interception by Kenny Jones and returned 60 yards for a touchdown to tie up the game at seven midway through the first.

Tom Woehnker showed off his punting ability and pinned the Franklin offense inside their 20 yard line twice in the first half, allowing the defense to bring a wide variety of blitz packages to quickly get the ball back to the offense.

Franklin’s next score would burn the Jackets defense for 80 yards on a play early in their next drive, making the score 14-7 in favor of the Grizzlies.

On Franklin’s next drive they move the ball very effectively and beat the Jacket’s defense through the air for a 40 yard touchdown to increase their lead to 21-7.

The Jackets’ next drive looked promising as Alex Larson is able to string together consecutive completions. The drive falls short as they are unable to convert on a fourth down attempt.

Franklin would get the ball back with just under 3 minutes left in the game and would go 60 yards on the ground in one play for a touchdown, a missed extra point leaves the score 27-7 going into the half.

The second half brought more misfortune to the Yellow Jackets. Franklin would go on to score 3 more times almost taking the life out of the Yellow Jackets.

But the Jacket offense would prove there was still fight left with a drive late lead by the legs and arm of Alex Larson, as he took them down into the red zone. The drive was capped off with a bruising run from Trevon Burrell from two yards out.

The final score read Franklin College Grizzlies 48 and the Defiance College Yellow Jackets 14.

The Yellow Jackets play their final game of the season against the Beavers of Bluffton. The game is at Bluffton, kick off starts at 1:30 pm.
