Boo Bowling: A Costume Competition

– Zach Bires (Defiance, OH)

Hey Defiance College athletes! There is a very special event coming up just for you guys! Boo Bowling is an annual Halloween Event held by SAAC, formally known as the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, for the student athletes here at Defiance.

Students have a chance to dress up with their teams or as individuals in any type of Halloween costume and go have a good time with all of Defiance Athletics in one place!

This is an event for our student athletes to go and hangout at a local bowling alley, and get free bowling and also free pizza! This is a chance for some fun competition and a great way to relax about halfway through the semester.

Our student athletes in the past have had a great time at the event, and look forward to doing it again. Sophomore Kassie Memmer enjoyed the event, and stated, “Boo Bowling is a great way for athletes on campus to come together in an environment outside of their sport. It’s a social event but there is still that competitiveness especially in the costume contest that really ties the whole event together.”

Each team competes for prizes, and they way they compete is with their costumes! The costume competitions will be voted on during the next SAAC meeting, but the main prize is for the best team costume. The softball team is the reigning champ with Coach Holava being a spice rack and the players being all the spices.

The prospective ideas for costume competitions are scariest, funniest, most inventive, and/or anything else the SAAC committee decides to come up with!

The prizes vary, and each team will give an apparel item for the winners of the prizes to pick and be able to keep.

This event will take place October 29th later in the evening around 8 PM, but the official time has not been decided yet. It will take place at Defiance Recreation, which is located at  1923 Jefferson Ave, Defiance, OH 43512. This is a short drive from campus, and only takes about 5 minutes!

If you have any questions about Boo Bowling, contact your coach or SAAC president Megan Warren closer to this event for more details!
