Jackets Fall to Rose-Hulman
The Defiance College volleyball team traveled to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday morning, October 28th, for their last regular season game. The Yellow Jackets fell in three sets, making their record 5-4 in HCAC play, and the number five seed for tournament play.
Defiance started out set one strong, taking advantage of Rose-Hulman errors. The Fightin’ Engineers quickly came back and tied the set at 5. The two teams battled back and forth until Rose-Hulman was able to pull ahead, winning 15-25. In set two, the Jackets fought hard with the score bouncing back and forth the entire set. Unfortunately, Defiance fell short, 23-25. The Yellow Jacket found themselves in a 2-7 deficit in the beginning of the third set. Defiance was able to rally a few points, but not enough to catch up to the Fightin’ Engineers. The Jackets lost the final set, 14-25.
Emma Seitz led the Jackets offense with 7 kills on the night, and Marissa Windau was not far behind with 5. The defensive side was led by Jaidyn Patridge with 15 digs and Abigail Cronin with 10 digs. Senior, co-captain, Sydney Unger said, “Not exactly where we wanted to finish, but we are glad we get to be in the tournament. We are also glad we get a chance at Bluffton, watching film and working on the shots we need to make to beat Bluffton is how we will prepare. Defiance will be back in action at Bluffton University on Wednesday, November 1st, at 7pm in HCAC Tournament action.
