However, other people believe that England discovered ice cream around the same time, maybe even a few years earlier. According to “The History of Ice Cream: Ice Cream for America,” states that “The first official account of ice cream in the New World comes from a letter written in 1744 by a guest of Maryland Governor William Bladen.” Until around 1800, ice cream was considered a rare dessert that only the elite could eat. From 1940 through 1970, ice cream production became relatively constant in the United States as the more prepackaged ice cream was sold to local stores and ice cream parlors. Even though most people believe that vanilla ice cream was the first flavor, it was actually chocolate ice cream.

According to “Facts About Ice Cream,” “The largest ice cream cake weighed 12, 096 pounds.” In conclusion, ice cream is a very popular dessert that the majority of Americans will eat.
