As a newcomer in Defiance College, the Pilgrim Library is among the prominent locations where I have been doing my assignments, do research, or simply look for a quiet place between classes. However, besides being a place to rent books, the library acts as one of the major academic resource centers within DC.
The main objective of the Pilgrim Library is to make teaching, learning, and research in Defiance College, providing a variety of academic resources and services to help students succeed in class. In addition, the library is a sample of Defiance College history for its students, alumni, and the nearby communities.
In my opinion, the most valuable source available at Pilgrim Library is JACKET Search. In this system, you can find all sorts of academic materials like books, journal articles, videos and other literature. The library also offers access to OhioLINK which helps link Defiance College to millions of books and other sources through Ohio libraries. I used it a lot especially for my English papers and my citation.
Looking at Pilgrim Library, there are many other valuable services for students. The Academic Support Center assists students with tutoring and other types of academic assistance in such disciplines as math and sciences. Do not be ashamed to ask for help! There is also the Writing Studio where students receive personalized advice concerning papers, projects, reports and other assignments. Instead of editing a paper yourself, the writing consultants help you to improve such aspects as organization, purpose, structure and audience awareness.
Technology is yet another feature of the building. The computer lab that provides computers is situated near the entrance to the library, offering another opportunity for students to do their assignments and projects.
Pilgrim Library bring students together by organizing a variety of events and programs during the semester, proving that this building not only serves for academic purposes but is a social place as well. It became a “hang out” place for me and my friends, as we get our study hall hours in.
Although the Pilgrim Library is a traditional college library on the outside, it offers plenty of opportunities to students at any point of their studies at Defiance College. Regardless of whether a person requires a silent room for studying, assistance with his assignment, research materials or tutoring, the Pilgrim Library will continue to play a significant role in DC and in the student’s daily routine.
