Starting at 1 pm on Saturday, August 29, the Defiance College football team stepped onto the field at the Justin F. Coressel Stadium and launched an amazing win against Rio Grande. At first, Rio Grande came out with a bang, giving Defiance a run for their money. However, the first touchdown from Defi, during the second quarter at 14:01, was just the warmup. The second touchdown made by the Yellowjackets during the same quarter at 6:20 lit a fire under not only the football team, but the entire crowd got into the spirit.

After the first half of the game, Defi relied on teamwork, communication, and speed. As the Yellowjacket’s defense locked in on Rio Grande, trying to stop them from making a comeback, the Yellowjacket’s offense maintained a scoring groove without slowing down. Each snap creating a flicker of hope on the field, in the crowd, and on the sidelines.

The stands were fully active, engaged and on the edge of their seats as the Defiance Yellowjackets were starting to take the lead with a score of 14-8. The sidelines were electrifying, with other players focused intensely on the game and jumping with enthusiasm. While players were on field giving it their all, the cheer team led the audience through chants and tricks while the student section showed unconditional support by engaging in chants, claps and even pictures.

As the crowd got louder, the team got more confident and gave it everything they’ve got. This first win provided the Yellowjackets with a strong foundation, while showing the crowd and themselves what they are capable of achieving each time they go out on the field. Through the flags and the penalties, the Yellowjackets gave one of the biggest stingers of all… A 58-23 victory.
