Hey, Yellow Jackets! So, today I am here to talk about preparations for the winter. Since last year was one of the worst on record for the past 20 years, I wanted to talk a little about this coming winter.
According to National Weather Service data, the winter will be milder compared to last year. Even if it is a little milder, though, this does not mean there will not be any cold and snow days! Quite to contrary—there will be some very cold days, which happens because of El Niño, a fact that changes the way things are.
One of the most important things to remember for winter is to have warm clothes. A good winter coat, gloves, a hat, thick socks, and waterproof boots can make the difference. It is also an idea to keep extra blankets, food, water and basic medicine in your dorm in case the weather becomes bad.
Students should also pay attention to weather alerts before leaving campus. Try to avoid going outside when there is heavy snow, freezing rain, strong winds, and days with the temperature below 0 F. Those are situations where you should stay at your dorm, so you do not get sick—or even die! Ice can also make driving dangerous, so avoid as much as you can driving in the snow.
Finally, plan ahead when you need to do your laundry, and what you got buy at the supermarket, so you do not need to go away a lot of times during the week, or during the most freezing days. Winter might be coming, but there are ways to be smart and stay safe and enjoy it when it gets here!
