Hello, Yellow Jackets, how are you doing? Today, I’m here to talk a little about time management and how it is so important for you to focus on it.

Do you feel there are simply not enough hours in a day to get everything done? You may be surprised to learn that this is a common issue among college students! With classes, study time, sports, a job, and friends, it can be difficult to coordinate your daily schedule. That is why managing your time is such an important skill to learn while in college.

You need to realize that a busy day doesn’t necessarily mean one that is productive. On some days, we can waste a lot of time watching videos and on our phones without even realizing that we are not giving our best. At the end of the day, it’s often that we still have some work left to do, whether it is a test to prepare for or assignments to do. The best way to get through is to plan your day and decide what you will do first.

Another thing that can be useful is a calendar or a planner. It does not have to be elaborate. You can just list your classes, assignments, practices, meetings, or whatever else. It will allow you to determine how much free time you really have, and it can help you to remember upcoming deadlines. If you have a major test on Friday, then a little each day will generally serve you much better than cramming the night before.

In fact, for the student-athletes, there can be even less free time for taking care of yourself. Between the practices, games, gym workouts, and school, there isn’t always a lot of down time. Still, keep in mind that there is a fine line between academics and athletics. While being a talented athlete is fantastic, in the end, earning your degree and being ready for the real world are even better.

Another thing that students should not overlook is selfcare. Some students may feel that to overcome everything, they have to sleep less and ignore some meals. But this will affect their focus, concentration, health, and productivity. Breaks, regular meals and good sleep are even a part of managing time.

What you may not realize is that no one has a perfect system, and that’s okay! What’s more important is knowing what your priorities are and having the ability to make smarter choices when it comes to your time. College is already hectic enough, but with a little planning and discipline, your experience will be much more rewarding.
