Friends and Family
By COURTNEY FLECK
Do you ever get homesick? I do. There are days where I just want to pack up and go home to see my friends and family. It is not possible to leave every weekend sometimes, so luckily, Defiance College has Friends and Family weekend! During that weekend, you can invite your friends and family from home to come stay for the weekend here in Defiance! It is October 25th – 27th.
When your friends and family arrive on October 25, they will check in at Serrick. To take advantage of the games that night, you will want to be check-in by 7:00 pm at the latest. At check in, they will receive meal tickets and tickets for the corn maze, both provided by the campus. You will have to register online, so Defiance College knows how many tickets to give each family. When you register online there will be a link called “Places To Stay,” which provides a list of hotels your friends and family can stay while in Defiance, of course there is always your dorm room.
On Friday Night, once everyone is settled in, festivities will begin in Hubbard Hall. In years past, activates have included painting on pumpkins, Halloween movies, kids playing on the Wii, coloring, and snacks. Along with past years activities, this year on Friday there will be a Defiance College Choir Showcase!
Saturday morning brunch is served from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. After brunch, there will be lawn games, such as corn hole, and then you will also receive tickets to the home sporting events, which include football and soccer. The DC Football team takes on Hanover, kick off is at 1:30 pm. The Men and Women’s Soccer team plays Transylvania, Women kick off at 1:00 pm and the men follow at 3:30pm.
Remember those corn maze tickets? If you do not want to support the DC athletic teams this is the perfect chance to use them. The corn maze is roughly 10 – 15 minutes away at Leader’s Farm in Napoleon, Ohio. Directions will be provided.
Saturday Evening, the City of Defiance is holding a Halloween Parade from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. For a small town, this parade is huge! Even if you are not a Halloween fan it is great to see how the city comes together, it will change your perspective on Defiance. After a night on the town, there will be more events in Hubbard Hall. This year will be a Scooby Doo theme night!
Finally, on Sunday morning everyone is invited to brunch where we will have BINGO where you can win prizes! This whole weekend is sponsored by the Campus Activity Board (CAB). CAB understands college can be stressful and you can become homesick. So instead of going home on October 25th, have the family come to you, and check out the campus and meet the friends you have made!
