The Jackets Continue the 2 Game Winning Streak

(Defiance, OH) Although the Yellow Jackets (3-5) defense stole the show in the second half against Ravens (2-6), the offense put up impressive stats. They racked up 19 first downs, 11 plays over 10 yards, and one play of over 30 yards. Alex Larson and Garrett Teague combined to complete 11/20 passes and led the offense to 3 scores in the red zone.
The Yellow Jackets defense picked off 6 interceptions and took 3 of those back for a touchdown, one of which was nearly 100 yards. They managed to make 12 stops on third down, 2 sacs, 5 total tackles for loss and were penalized 10 times.
The first strike was made by the Jackets’ offense when Larson completes a 65 yard pass to Darius Harper for a touchdown. The score was set up by a pass completion to Cody Wilson and was also helped by a penalty against Anderson.
Anderson held the ball to start the second quarter and were marching down the field and set up in the red zone when Cody Wiggins comes up with the first interception of the game at the two yard line.
Jamario Belton and Kyle Wilson put an early end to Anderson’s next drive with back to back sacs on second and third down.
Anthony Righi makes a strong appearance in the Jackets’ next drive where he runs right over a defender for a first down. His runs help set up a touchdown catch by Dan Collins from Alex Larson.
Anderson’s next possession looked promising as they moved the ball through the air against the Yellow Jacket defense; until Kenny Jones intercepted a pass in the end zone for a touchback to end the first half.
The Yellow Jackets score on their first drive set up by a pair of quarterback sneaks by Larson and a 20 yard run by Dan Collins. Larson finds Cody Wilson I’m the end zone for a 2 yard passing touch down. To expand their lead to 20-0.
On Anderson’s next drive Cody Wiggins gets his second interception of the game and takes it 60 yards for the touchdown.
After Anderson gets the ball back Angelo Proulx intercepts his first pass of the night to set up the offense at the 25 yard line. Dan Collins runs it in for another touchdown making the score 34-0 after the extra point.
Early in the 4th quarter Angelo Proulx gets his second interception of the day near the goal line and takes it all the way down the field for a touchdown. Later in the quarter Joshua Slayton joins his teammates and intercepts a pass near the 40 yard line and goes the distance for another defensive touchdown making the score 48-7.
Anderson is able to score with 25 seconds left on the clock making the final score 48-7 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
They will look to carry this momentum into next week when Franklin College comes to town, the game starts at 1:30 pm.
