Do you ever get homesick? I do. There are days where I just want to pack up and go home to see my friends and family. It is not possible to leave every weekend sometimes, so luckily, Defiance College has Friends and Family weekend! During that weekend, you can invite your friends and family from home to come stay for the weekend here in Defiance! It is October 25th – 27th.

(Defiance, Oh) This past weekend was the battle of the bees as Defiance College Women’s Soccer team played Baldwin Wallace on Saturday September 28, 2013. The Lady Yellow Jackets of Defiance lost to the Lady Yellow Jackets of Baldwin Wallace 4 -3 after a 3 goal comeback.

Now that the first few weeks of the semester have settled in so have the home sick jitters. College campuses across America experience mass migrations of local students going back to their homes, leaving an empty campus for those individuals who do not have the luxury to go home for a day or two. Defiance College, despite the size, is one of those many colleges that becomes largely empty on the weekends.

“All right! College has started and now it’s time to have fun! Oh shoot, I also have to pay debt. Dang it!” Paying debt is not fun, or at least not in real life. However, there is a game in which you have to pay debt in order to have a nice house in a life simulation game called Animal Crossing: New Leaf. In this game, you are a human living in a village with anthropomorphic villagers (animal like humans). In this life simulator game, you have the freedom to do whatever you want. You can fish, fossil hunt, catch bugs, buy clothes, and buy furniture for your new house (that you have to pay debt for). Why is this game so popular? Let us go back to the first game of the series.

(Defiance, Oh) I wonder sometimes if the idea of chivalry is irrelevant to today’s culture. How that an etiquette formed in the medieval times is in any way relevant to our way of life. First let’s give a brief definition of what chivalry is. The code of chivalry describes certain standards that promote the development of men. Under this code men are called to be trustful, loyal, courteous, protectors of women, and allies to the weak. While all of these values seem to fall under the phrase of “being a Boy Scout.” However these values are what we should be putting on a pedestal.

(Defiance, Oh) The sails are set, the chain is broken, and the dogs are out! College has begun once again for the fall semester and with it, many adjustments are taking place for incoming freshman and even some upperclassmen. From small changes like adapting to the delectable cuisine offered here at DC to much larger alterations like making a dorm or an apartment home, every student at DC is surely experiencing new adventures, achievements, experiences, and exploits.

Refs, players, and finally a marching band. The first home football game against Adrian on Saturday saw the completion of the football program with the introduction of the first ever Yellow Jacket Marching Band. The first performance of the marching band had been anticipated since Bridget Leahy was announced as the director of bands last year academic year. Since then the community and the school has rallied support to provide uniforms, instruments, and staff members.
