  • Student Club & Organization Fair: Review

    – Mackenzie Durdak (Defiance, OH)

This Thursday, Defiance College held its annual Student Club and Organization Fair to advertise the different clubs offered on campus. Not only did this fair advertise the multiple groups on campus, but it also helped students find others that have similar interests and allowed for new friendships and bonds to grow. This fair also gave Yellow Jackets a chance to get to know and interact with the staff and student-leadership who often provide valuable guidance on the direction of clubs here at DC, which gives our campus a chance to collectively communicate together as a community. Interactions such as these are what separate Defiance College from larger, more closed off universities.

  • Taylor’s Talk: A College Advice Column

    -Taylor Haydinger (Defiance, OH)

Classes have started and things have finally begun to settle down, right? This may be the period where you find yourself having extra time between practices, class, and the occasional Netflix binge.

Initially, looking at the campus on the weekdays you might assume there is not much going on considering Defiance College is not a huge academic institution. If you do not pay attention to your DC email, you may not hear much of anything.

As a DC returner, I can say that is flat wrong.

Believe it or not, the excitement has just begun!   (more…)

  • Faculty Guest Contribution: Embracing the Confederate Flag Battle

Flags are enduring symbols of our history and should never be utilized without recognizing what they truly represent.  The US flag clearly represents the growth of our united states from the original thirteen colonies due to the bloody sacrifices made to establish and maintain “the union”.  My own namesake came to the American colonies from Switzerland in 1740 and his eldest son (Adam) fought (as a lowly private) throughout the Revolutionary war. Adam Rickabaugh risked his life, and my future existence, to create our nation and to reject the tyranny of a colonial power.

  • Artistic Immersion: DC on Broadway

    -Phillip Balla

(Defiance, OH) There is arguably no higher peak of musical theater experience than Broadway in New York City. The magnificent theater, the multi-million dollar sets, and the brilliant world class performers all contribute towards a special experience that is able to transcend the mere sum of the play’s parts. On the latest New York trip Defiance College students had the extraordinary opportunity to go to Broadway. No, they didn’t merely get the opportunity to walk on the street and gawk at the magnificent marquees (although that certainly would have been worth it by itself), the students had the opportunity to actually attend the musical Les Miserables.

  • Imagine Initiative London: The Spring Break Trip of a Lifetime

    -Nicole Tank (London, England)

Big Ben Group 1This spring break, a time where most students head south to beaches and warmth, a group of fifteen Defiance College students and two faculty members headed overseas to London, England for the week.

This opportunity was a part of Defiance College’s Imagine Initiative, a program promising international travel to any DC student interested in exploring abroad.

Their week started with touring historic landmarks such as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and The British Parliament. The group enjoyed seeing all the different types of architecture on the buildings, describing it as “breathtaking.”

The following day, the majority of the group went to Abbey Road and then traveled to the famous Kensington Palace. The group thought the best part about going to Abbey Road was their attempt of trying to reenact the famous picture of the Beetles, even though it took the group a few tries to get it right.
